The only true way to transform your body and become as fit as you want to be, is to be consistent with your workout. Some days you just don’t feel like it. Whether it is work or life getting in the way, or just feeling lazy and lethargic, working out in any capacity is the last thing you want to do. It is at these vulnerable and potentially life changing moments that you must dig deep inside of yourself and find the motivation to go for it, and be as fit as you want. Only you can truly motivate yourself, my friends. So strap on your can do attitudes, grab life by its figurative horns, and get fit.
Ease into exercise
One of the main reasons people fall out of a regular workout routine, is they do too much in the initial stages of building a consistent regimen. For example, if you want to run a marathon, you do not go out your first day running and run 26.2 miles. You build strength, endurance, and stamina by starting small and adding distance the more fit you become. When lifting weights, don’t blast your muscles in the first week to the point that you injure yourself or become so sore you can’t work out for several days. Ease into it, and build on a sound foundation that propels you into a true and devout love of fitness.
Log your progress
Keep an accurate log of your progress so that you have a goal to beat. If you ran 3 miles on Monday last week, try and run 3.5 or 4 this week. In the weight room, keep a log of how many reps and sets you do of all of the different exercises and find pleasure and self- motivation in beating last months or last week’s numbers. Use your log as a way to motivate and improve yourself every day.
Do exercises you already enjoy
I recommend doing exercises that you already enjoy, that way it is fun and easy to find that motivation. I love to mountain bike on single- track trails, so it’s a blast to hop on my bike and rip through the woods getting a full body workout while experiencing ultimate enjoyment. If tennis is an enjoyable hobby for you, then go for it with fitness in mind. If golf is your thing, then try walking the course instead of riding. Save a few dollars and burn some calories in the process.
JUST DO IT!!
Only a consistent workout routine brings about drastic change, so keep that in mind when you are trying to talk yourself out of exercising. Get up, pump yourself up, and just do it. Once you start to raise the heart rate and get the blood flowing, you will feel energized and rejuvenated. Only you can change yourself, so dig deep and get fit!!
