I really hate shopping for birthday presents. I have nephews and nieces, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles – all of whom I need to buy birthday presents and every time I have the same struggle. I just don ‘ t know what to buy them!
You want to buy something that is unique, something that they actually appreciate, something that they ‘ re not going to turn around to you and ask: ” Have you still got the receipt? “
In the past I have often taken the easy road – everyone loves gift vouchers, right? Or food, or a bottle of wine. But I ‘ ve had some feedback from my family that they ‘ re not happy. It is starting to look like I ‘ m not really putting enough effort into the buying of gifts – the pressure is really on!
This year I am turning over a new leaf – just when it comes to birthday gifts anyway.
I ‘ ve started keeping a spreadsheet of what everyone likes or any hints that they have dropped. This is a true story. When I get some spare time, I do a bit of internet searching to see what ‘ s available, what the prices are, where I would get it from. It ‘ s not an exact science, but it does help to narrow down the options. My niece says that she wants a bra signed by all the members of 1Direction – that ‘ s clearly not going to happen. My Aunty says that she ‘ s thinking about upgrading her phone – now that could work.
While my Aunty isn ‘ t going to want to pimp her phone up too much, phone accessories are within my budget. Add it to the spreadsheet and we are on track.
Some of the best web sites that I have found on my searches are:
ShopJoy for phone accessories and other unique gifts
StarsOnline for signed items from musicians, actors, and other celebrities
Amazon for just about anything you can think of
If only I could track down a bra signed by 1Direction and I would be totally winning at this game.
