Let’s face it: High school mathematics is really hard for the vast majority of students. There is no shame in admitting that you need a little bit of extra help every now and then. If you live in the Owensboro, Kentucky area then you have several options on where you may be able to get some extra help.
First off, look in the most obvious places at the beginning of your search for math tutoring: your school. All four major high schools in the area (Daviess County High, Apollo High, Owensboro High, Owensboro Catholic) off extended school services (ESS) both before and after school. The best part of these services is that they are free of charge for the students, as the payment for these programs comes from tax dollars. These sessions are often led by math teachers and peer tutors, but check with your child’s individual high school to get all the details. Depending on your child’s math teacher, then they may also be willing to stay before or after school to give extra assistance now and then for free as well.
There used to be a Sylvan Learning Center off of Frederica Street, but it went out of business years ago. So there are not too many private businesses available for paid tutoring. Club Z is the closest thing to it and it is essentially a one-on-one session inside your own home. Whether you go the Club Z route or hire a private tutor elsewhere, expect to fork over a quite a bit of dough. Private tutor rates can range anywhere from $20 to $40 an hour. Many times you ask your child’s math teacher for the names of math tutors that are very reliable. A lot of retired math teachers will go into this field and the results are often very positive.
No matter the decision you make in regards to math tutoring, this is certainly a good investment especially if your child plans on heading to college. The ACT test is 25% mathematics and the ultimate exam to see how much scholarship money your child will be rewarded. Math tutors can be expensive and time consuming for your child, but in the long run I believe this investment will most definitely be worth it!
