I recently had the pleasure of attending a taping of the game show, The Price is Right. The Price is Right franchise started in 1956 and was revamped in 1972 when the game show was then hosted by Bob Baker. Then in October 2007, the actor/comedian, Drew Carey took over as the host.
Even though I did not get picked as a contestant on the show, It was a lot of fun. The crowd really got into all the excitement of the show and cheered on people that they have never met before. The crew announced when we were being seated that they were watching us at all times trying to choose the next contestant. They don’t preselect contestants before the show, they like to hand pick them out of the audience. I thought that was a great way to do things, it gives everyone a fair chance of showing their enthusiasm to get hand picked.
Once you name is called to be a contestant, they hold up a sign with the person name on it. This was such a great idea because with all the people cheering you couldn’t always here whose name they were calling out. The crew was really friendly. They did a great job directing the contestant where they needed to go and with what was going to happen next.
Drew Carey was great as the host. During breaks, while they changed the set around, he engaged with the audience. Not only did he talk to the contestants, he also talked to other people sitting in the audience there for the show. He also shared some personal stories about when he had his heart attack and also his experience with being on Dancing with the Stars.
I had a blast attending this show. I have attended tapings of other types of shows and this was by far the most fun experience I have had. I hope I can get more tickets to this show and one day become an actual contestant. If you are in the California area one day, I highly recommend you try and attend this show.
