When dealing with a chronic disease, everyday life can be altered at any given time; one needs to adjust his or her lifestyle in an effort to maximize the enjoyment of life. Having asthma can be a bummer and get you down, but it doesn’t mean that your existence has to be completely miserable.
Everybody’s life is different, and asthma will mean yours won’t be an exception, so don’t feel down, but adjust with purpose. Here are some ways in which your life can be pleasant whilst having asthma.
The best way to tackle the condition head on is to accept it and take strives to understand the condition. This can be accomplished by educating yourself on asthma, limiting your physical activity when necessary, and finding a good doctor that will find you the best medications and ways to manage the condition.
If you have concerns over physical activity, like running the mile in Physical Education class, notify your teacher on possible alternatives to running and of the care plan you have set up with your doctor. People will understand it more if you are able to properly explain it to them.
If you are a smoker, you will then know how difficult it is to quit. But frankly, you will need to quit smoking if you don’t want asthma to hold your life down. Smoking is one of those health things that is the root of all evil; smoking is very unhealthy and you will not want to do it. Whether you have asthma or not, putting down the pack will be a health boost for you.
Yes, exercise is going to be difficult when you have asthma, but I’ve found that there are plenty of ways to exercise without putting too much of a strain on your lungs. Try walking for a nice and easy time in the park.
Concern yourself with people who support you
Everybody with a chronic condition will know how important it is to have people who understand you, and will help you with dealing with the necessary lifestyle changes needed to properly live comfortably with asthma.
Don’t forget your inhaler
Each and every day will be different; of course, some will be better than others. For those bad times when you need your emergency inhaler, you don’t want to be caught without it. Be mindful and carry it wherever you go, as you will find that emergency situations don’t have prejudices.
