I’ve been saying for years that Will Ferrell had a bit of a doppelganger floating around the celebrity world, or maybe it’s the other way around, with the uncanny resemblance between himself and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. I know there are people who can’t stand Ferrell and his brand of comedy, I can’t say I’m one of them because I truly do actually enjoy his movies, just as much as I do Adam Sandler movies. For a little while now there’s been a challenge from Chad Smith to face off with Ferrell in a drum off, which finally came to a head when the two finally had their drum off on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Smith, obviously, won the battle but the fans were the biggest winners when the Chili Peppers came out to jam on a little Don’t Fear the Reaper with Ferrell on cowbell.
With that challenge completed it appears that the twins from different mothers are turning their attention to another drummer who they’re now claiming has quite similar looks and attributes to the two of them. Smith and Ferrell are claiming that the man behind the skins for Metallica, Lars Ulrich, looks a lot like themselves, so as a result they would like to have a face off much like they did with one another. Honestly, I don’t know how anyone could seriously think their looks are even remotely similar, but I would absolutely love to see Smith and Ulrich square off on the drums. Regardless of what a drummer from some band that very few people have ever heard of wants to say, Ulrich is still solid behind the kit and still puts on one hell of a show.
With the big walkout from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play along with Chad Smith and Will Ferrell while they were on Fallon, I would absolutely love to see a collaboration between Smith, Ulrich, and the men in black from Metallica. Being a fan of both bands, it would be amazing to see a combination of Metallica and the Chili Peppers, their sounds are complete opposites but I could imagine seeing some old school RHCP with a little power to it, or a funked out Enter Sandman. I’m not sure how long it may take to get a response, but I’m sure this challenge will garner more of a reaction from Mr. Ulrich than the words of an unheard of member of an even less unheard of band.
