Keeping your eyes healthy should be at the top of your list in health. You can help your eyes work properly and stay healthy by including a few of these foods in your current diet. These foods will not only help your eyes, but they will also help you overall body’s health.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
First, you want to include foods with Vitamin C and the fatty acid omega-3. This fatty acid helps maintain cells, muscles, and nerve function. Our body does not produce this, so we must eat foods with omega-3 in it to be provided enough to build vital cells. You can find these in a supplement, but if you want to eat your omega-3, start with green leafy foods like spinach and kale. Add these in your salad or as a side item on your plate.
If you are more of a meat eater, enjoy some salmon or tuna. You will also want to add some nuts to your everyday menu. For Vitamin C look for oranges or other citrus fruit. This can also be taken as a supplement. Make sure to always follow directions. Taking more never means better.
If you work at a computer, your eyes are hard at work too. They get tired just like you and need to take breaks. Breaks don’t mean playing on your cell phone. Your eyes need at least 20 minutes of down time to reboot. You may notice a dull pain, or blurred vision. This is when you know your eyes are working too hard. Make sure your eyes are level with the monitor and that you don’t have glares on the screen. This would be like sun reflection that shines right into your eyes.
When outdoors make sure, if possible, to wear sunglasses that protect from the sun’s harmful rays. 100% blockage is always best. If you wear glasses, make sure you get your eyes checked regular to make sure you have the right prescription.
This should be done yearly or anytime you no longer see well with your glasses. If you wear contacts, always change them in the correct way so that you don’t expose your eyes to harmful bacteria.
Just a few easy tips to get your started on maintaining one of your precious organs, the eye. You’ll need them for life, so today is a great day to get started.
