You used to rock any eye makeup style you chose but now you have to be more selective about the products you wear and the techniques you use. As we age, the fine skin around the eyes tends to show those birthdays before any other area of your body. The wrong makeup application will only enhance those tiny lines and wrinkles. (It’s a challenge this makeup artist takes seriously.) Don’t wear eye makeup that makes you look older-avoid these mistakes!
Give up the shimmer. It’s not working for you. (Sorry!) Unfortunately, all our beloved shimmer sticks and creamy glitter eye makeup makes eyes look older. If you feel compelled to wear shimmer, only use a touch right at the arch of your eyebrows or on the inner corner of your eyes.
Opt for the liner lift at the end. The end of your eyeliner gets lost somewhere. What’s happening? Again, it’s sagging skin that’s the culprit. Give your eye some well needed definition. Add a little lift at the end of the eye, like a little arc up or wing tip.
Don’t wear crooked eyeliner. This is one eye makeup mistake that happens far too often. Eyeliner applications don’t match! Again that drooping eyelid is probably to blame but there is a fix! Lay a business card along the outside of the eyelid and use it as a guide for your liner. You’ll get perfectly matched eye makeup every time.
Get skinny with the liner. Love those big eye crayons. Well, let them go. (Many are loaded with shimmer anyway.) Instead, reach for skinnier eyeliner and take control of where your liner goes–the thinner, the better!
Wear fuller brows. Eye brow hair does tend to thin as we age (oh, the horror) but you don’t have to leave those sparse brows looking bald. Skip that major eye makeup mistake. Instead, allow your brows to grow out a little more than normal (bushier is younger). Sculpt the brow lightly with a brow pencil.
With a few changes in your eye makeup routine, you can stay at your favorite birthday a little longer.
