So lips feel dry or really chapped? No amount of chap stick is working for you, well then read on to discover what you can do for yourself that is inexpensive and works great to take care of those winter roughened lips. Homemade lip balms, facial scrubs, and things of that nature are easy to make and you can find the things right in your own kitchen. I know there is a recipe for homemade lip scrub out there that uses olive oil, along with sugar, and food coloring. The problem is the recipe is for a whole batch to be made up and what is left after the jars are filled is more then likely thrown away. To me that is a waste. Yes, it can last for a long while, but let’s face it we don’t use enough of it to use it all up. So this one is perfect for when ever you want it and just feel like it. It doesn’t have to be made in advance either.
So, today was a lazy Sunday afternoon, I got to seeing how bad my lips had gotten even with using chap stick and rough lips equal bad looking lip gloss or lipstick. I pulled out my jar of coconut oil, which can be found in any super market. It is by spectrum and it is all natural. The oil is solidified so I took a spoon dug some out around the size of a nickel, added some sugar, brown or white can be used for this. Put it in the microwave for about fifteen seconds so the oil was still some what solid, but now pliable. I stirred the coconut oil and sugar together until it started clumping. Then took two fingers pulled out a dab and proceeded to rub against my lips in small circular motions. Once it was done I rinsed with warm water, patted them dry and applied some lip balm. This helps moisturize your lips while removing all the dead skin off them. I tried the recipe with olive oil and it made my lips feel all greasy afterwards. The coconut oil didn’t.
The really great part is that there was enough left over to use for a facial scrub. I took the remaining sugar and coconut oil and exfoliated my face as well. Let it sit for about five minutes then took a wash rag with warm water and rinsed it off using circular motions. Afterwards I patted dry and didn’t need to use any face cream because my skin was not tight or dry feeling. So I knocked out two different exfoliation processes in under ten minutes to me that is a time saver. You can try what ever you want, but when it comes down to personal preference I will always chose Spectrum coconut oil over olive oil for this type of stuff.
