Located in the heart of Colorado lies one of the best modern melodic death metal bands in the history of music, Allegaeon. Recently, I had the chance to talk to Ezra Haynes, the vocalist of Allegaeon. Here is what he had to say…
(Q) Hello. How are you? Tell me a little more about Allegaeon…
I’m doing great! Thank for asking. Allegaeon is a melodic death metal band from America with science based lyrics and a huge problem with playing excessive notes. Rehab required.
(Q) How did the formation of the band come about? Tell me a little more about the inspiration behind Allegaeon…
Allegaeon started in 2008 with founding member Ryan Glisan. Over the years we’ve had a few line-up changes, but we are now at a comfortable spot with our current line-up. We all came from different bands and different parts of the U.S. until we all met up in Colorado. As far as the inspiration goes, we’re really just a group of dudes that love to perform and are very passionate about metal music.
(Q) Tell me a little more about Elements of Infinite…
It is coming out to be our most aggressive album to date. It carries a lot of depth that we haven’t been able to capture before. There is a lot of orchestration on this album. We are all very proud of it.
(Q) I think Elements of the Infinite is amazing. Everything about this CD is fantastic. If I had to choose a favorite song, it would be Genocide for Praise (Vals for the Vitruvian Ma).
Same here. That is turning out to be my favorite Allegaeon song out of our whole catalog. The song hits home with me and has so many different elements to it. Michael Stancel did a great job writing the music to it.
(Q) Do you have any plans of touring after the release of Elements of Infinite?
In August, we’ll be hitting the road with Chimaira. After that, we have about 2 1/2 months of solid touring ahead of us and that’s just what’s booked now. I’m sure that more dates will be added. We are really looking into doing some touring outside of the United States.
(Q) If Lil Jon were to call you up today and say “I would love to work with you” what would you say?
I would be incredibly okay with that. I’m sure the only person who would have a problem with it would be Greg. He hates anything to do with rap. Now me, on the other hand, absolutely adores it. Turn down for what?
(Q) For all of those music enthusiasts and metal heads reading this interview, what would you like them to know? What is next for Allegaeon?
Buy our album. Everything comes down to numbers. The more records we sell, the more likely we’ll be in your area on tour. It’s pretty simple math.
