The clattering of his change jar woke him up abruptly.
The metro was passing underneath his NYC apartment complex,
Just as it did everyday.
As he rubbed his glazed forehead and yawned,
He could smell alcohol on his own breath.
He rolled over to his left to find that both his watch and car keys were not on his side table as he was accustomed to.
The illustration of a surfer on a small cardboard box caught his attention.
He went to grab a cigarette from his pack, there was only one left.
It was his lucky.
Before he removed the single delicate cigarette from his pack he flipped it back.
He wasn’t feeling too lucky.
He let out a heavy sigh accompanied by a large puff of tobacco smoke.
As he turned to ash his cigarette he realized that his watch and his car keys were on his right side table,
not the left. As he was accustomed to.
However next to his watch was a small note that read:
“Thanks for a wonderful night, I’m sorry I had to leave so early in a hurry! My husband is freaking out on me! I hope we can do this again sometime! I left you a present in the other room.”
He left out a heavy sigh again and got up out of bed groggily.
He then dragged his feet to the adjacent room.
On a wooden stool laid a neatly wrapped gift box with a pink bow on top.
This was a pleasant surprise to the man, but unfortunately there was a knock at his door.
The man quickly freshened himself up and put on a nice three piece suit.
