What is Included: This small epilator comes with plastic cap. Batteries are not included. Also includes a small plastic cleaning brush and instructions.
General Description: The unit is red and white and resembles my larger one in looks. The epilator is small in size. It measures about 5″ long, a little more than 1.5″ wide, and just under 1″ deep. It has a battery compartment door that slides off and snaps back in place. It also has a cover that snaps on snugly but is easy enough to take off. If you were carrying this in your purse I think the covers would stay on. There are two plastic tabs on each side that you have to press in to remove the cover so it stays on securely unless you want to remove it.
With the cover off you will see three rows of tweezers but they are more widely spaced than my regular Epilady. It makes it easier to remove hair from sensitive areas like the upper lip because it removes fewer hairs at a time. I think I only counted 6 tweezers in all. While I love my full size epilator I do prefer this one for my upper lip areas because there are so many fine hairs there. I was not thinking I would use it anywhere but my eye brows but I really do like it. It actually turns more slowly than my full size unit, which I think is preferable. The slower speed makes the device pull rather than yank hairs and I think it cuts down on hair breaking off rather than being pulled.
The on off switch is kind of flimsy and hard to operate. There is a tiny button you have to press in and then slide the larger button up to turn it on. To turn it off slide down.
Overall the unit feels a little on the flimsy side. While it works fine I wonder how long it will continue to work because it just feels more cheaply made than my full sized epilator.
Battery: It takes one AA battery. I am not sure how long it lasts because I have only used it a few times. I like the idea that this takes regular batteries. It is nice to take for trips and not have to worry about bringing the charging cord for my big one. If the battery wears down it is easy enough to find an AA battery in any store. The battery is installed in the button under a plastic cover that slides off.
How Well it Works: This tiny epilator works extremely well considering that it feels a bit flimsy. In some ways I prefer it to the larger more expensive and better built unit. I like the small size and slower speed which makes it ideal for sensitive areas. When you are using the it the tweezers rotate and as they do, they open and close. You have to practice to get just the right angle to get the hairs. I think it is a learning curve for everyone because each person has hairs that grow in a certain direction. I find that if I use a slight circular movement rather than a back and forth motion it gets the most hairs.
I do not find it very painful except on my upper lip which stings. It is way easier on these sensitive areas than the full size unit. I tried it on my chin and it worked fine and did not really hurt. Keep in mind that I have been using an epilator for years so I am used to it. I think when you first start using it, you can be a little more sensitive. Whenever you try something new and are unsure you tend to tense up. Tensing up can make things hurt more so try to relax.
Final thoughts and rating
For the low price of $15 this is a great little unit. I would have been happier if it would have had a more sturdy feel and the buttons felt like they were more durable. I love how it works but I wonder how long it will continue to work. I am giving it 4 stars because it is such a low price and it really works very well.
