Natural Bridge State Park is a phenomenal site and is a sandstone structure that is located in Southeast Kentucky. It is one of the little known wonders of the world. Although its location is somewhat out of the way, for city folks, it is a site worth visiting. In my twenty years living in the area, I always love visiting this wonderful destination. And I am sure you will too!
If you are planning a three or four night stay in the forest, be sure to check out the camping grounds. There you will be able to choose a site with or without public facilities. Many people that bring their recreational vehicles choose a site with electricity and water, so their stay is more comfortable. Others choose to live in a more primitive way, by refusing to use these facilities. It can be quiet an experience and challenge, because you will have to transport water to your camping area, for washing and cooking. Also you may choose to bring your own lanterns and cooking appliances to suit your needs. But most campers choose to use the outdoor grill, provided by the campground.
Many tourist are from big cities and do not want to fight off mosquitos, so they choose to lodge indoors. There are Mountain View cabins available for renting and accommodate up to sixteen people. They are also furnished with a hot tub and a pool table, for your entire family to enjoy on their down time. You can choose to rent a room at the Hemlock Lodge, which offers a private deck for you to enjoy the outdoors in seclusion.
Scale To The Top Of The Mountain
In order to get a great view of the Natural Bridge, you must first ascend to the top of the large mountain. There are two ways to accomplish this mission. The younger folks usually grab their backpacks and hike their way to the top. Older adults will hop on the chair lift and slowly soar to the top. Once reaching your destination, you will be able to walk across the phenomenal seventy-eight feet long arch (http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/dbnf/specialplaces/?cid=fsbdev3_032556 Sky Bridge). The view is breathtakingly beautiful and you will never want to leave.
If you are an avid fisherman or boater, bring your pontoon or motor powered vessel and spend your day in the sixty acre lake, which is located in close vicinity of the great Natural Bridge.
Grab your swimming trunks and beach towel and head to the public swimming hole. There you will enjoy the waters of the public pool. Swim and splash all day, till your hearts content.
Check out the hand crafter’s shop, and take a little piece of Kentucky back home with you.
