New Jersey is home to some fabulous eateries. We’re famous for classic diners and hot dog wagons, but what if you’re a vegan in the Garden State? Never fear, Jersey’s got you covered there too.
Sweet Avenue Bake Shop
If you’re rolling your eyes and thinking, ”that’s not a restaurant,” trust me! Sweet Avenue Bake Shop in Rutherford is not to be missed. They offer some of the best cupcakes around and they’re completely vegan. The trick here is that you wouldn’t know it. Give some of these babies to your non-vegan friends and chances are they won’t know the difference. The taste is amazing. Don’t believe me? Check out my favorite, the Jet Black cupcake (followed a close second by Dark Side of the Moon). You won’t be sorry. And Sweet Avenue doesn’t just do cupcakes. They go where the wind takes them. Cakes, donuts, donut holes and the occasional breakfast or lunch sandwiches grace their cases (all vegan!). Visit their facebook page for more accurate details on what they serve each day.
Rutherford Pancake House
The Rutherford Pancake House in (where else, duh) Rutherford, is not solely a vegan restaurant, but there are vegan options for almost everything on their menu. That means vegan pancakes, vegan french toast and vegan Belgian waffles! But they don’t stop at breakfast. They also offer vegan options for lunch, so dive right into their amazing vegan nachos or even a vegan veggie burger. They’re located not far from the Sweet Avenue Bakeshop on Park Avenue, so swing by and grab yourself a vegan cupcake when you’re finished with your meal!
The Loving Hut
The Loving Hut has more than one location, and I can specifically vouch for the one in Matawan. I have yet to have a bad item on the menu. Their lunches are amazing and they are known to serve all you can eat buffets on occasion (check out their Facebook page for more details). My favorites are the Yum Yum Wonton Soup and the Veggie Tempura (love their homemade chipotle mayo). How can you go wrong with a name like loving hut?
