While growing up in the restaurant industry, I was always in the search of good lunch restaurant near me. I spent several years in Montrose, California which seemed to be the spawning of place of new locations in the upper valley of Glendale, California. One place that is right on the main strip is the Black Cow Cafe.
The restaurant was started in 1994 by a father and son team whom have several years of experience in the culinary world. Along with The Black Cow Cafe, they also own The Star Cafe, Clancy’s Crab Broiler, Jax Bar Grill, and Hamburger Central. That’s a great history in the food world but how is the food.
The last time I was eating at the Black Cow Cafe, I had the Angus Beef Burger with Maytag Blue Cheese. The restaurant serves the grilled Angus patty with mustard, mayo, bacon, arugula, caramelized onions, Maytag blue cheese on a potato bun. Sounds like a delish burger right!
Unfortunately, I found the burger to be a little dry for my tastes. If I’m going to pay nearly fifteen dollars for a burger, then I want to enjoy the burger. I have to admit though that the Maytag blue cheese and caramelized onions were a great addition.
The staff that at this restaurant were always friendly and made sure that you had what you needed at your table. The prices just seem too high for what ingredients Black Cow Cafe is serving. The decor doesn’t even warrant the price of the food. All in all the food is good but this is a location that has been catered to the economy of the local business owners and home owners.
