Deer Venison is one of the healthiest meats available. It’s lean and high in protein as well. There are a lot of different recipes that you can put deer meat in as well. You can cook it in any recipe in place of beef just fine. Wrapped in bacon, seasoned, and baked is a wonderful way to cook it.
I personally like to deer hunt, and one of the reasons is because of the meat. There are some hunters that don’t shoot bucks because “you can’t eat the horns”. Well, I’m one of those hunters. The smaller ones are even more tender and they are well managed in different areas of the state to maintain proper numbers. After all, there are already too many deer accidents on the highway.
I think that anyone who would like to get a sense of their American history should go deer hunting until they harvest one. It is a lot of meat that fills the freezer and other than a rifle or a bow, they are not very expensive to harvest. A deer tag usually only runs around $15 or $20 and that’s well worth the cost of a tag and a $1 bullet to have 60 pounds of meat in your freezer.
So if you would like to try some really good recipes for the rest of the year with a freezer full of deer venison, go out and harvest a deer! It will be a moment you will never forget and the chances are, you will be hunting again next year!
