Volunteering definitely has more than one mode and purpose; truthfully, it serves not only others and uplifts their day, but you will also find that it makes you feel good, instead of that rotten scoundrel that you too often compare yourself to.
For someone who believes they haven’t volunteered before, they would be mistaken most likely. Volunteering can be as simple as holding a door open for another, or showing up to your great aunt’s to rake leaves. The opportunities to volunteer may not be as palpable as the night’s sky, but they are there for you to take on. Here are a few ways that you can volunteer today, tomorrow, or whenever the time may be.
Help a Neighbor
If you live in a residential area with yards and what not, there are ways in which you can simply and discreetly volunteer your time towards helping others. During the winter months, and if you live in a place that gets snow, one of the best opportunities for you to help someone’s day become that much better is by simply shoveling the driveway and sidewalks of their property. Trust me, in places that provide harsh winters, this simple act of roughly an hour at a time (depending on how much snowfall and the size of the area) will be such a blessing to another. Hey, and in the autumn time don’t fret rake their leaves, and so on and so on. Helping a neighbor out is a friendly gesture that matters.
Become Part of a Race
Nowadays, there seems to be several 5Ks, half marathons, marathons, and so many different races of varying distances to make many happy. And just because you aren’t a runner, shouldn’t stop you from being a part of a race, as several go towards helping a worthy cause. Simply volunteer to hand out water to runners, or just hold up signs encouraging them. There are many ways to get involved.
Hand out a Meal
Several religious institutions that are good have times when they hand out food to people who can’t really afford it. Several holidays come to mind, like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and many other dates. They could always use more volunteers to help out. Find homeless shelters, or other organizations that help the less fortunate and don’t hesitate to offer your volunteer services. Volunteering is an act that may seem modest, but it truly blesses and helps others have a better day.
