I’ve worked with makeup for nearly two decades and despite all the cool, new anti-aging products that are available, I rely on makeup tricks for a more youthful appearance. Of course, this makeup artist isn’t belittling the importance of good skin care. On the contrary! If you want to look younger with makeup, you need to start with cleansed, moisturized skin. However, a few of these sneaky tricks can help you look younger and feel more confident, too.
Sweep on the rose-gold dust. So what makes younger looking skin look so pretty? Besides the tautness, it’s the subtle, rosy color of younger skin that makes us love it. Fake a girlish glow with a touch of rose-gold bronzing dust. I apply this lightweight product with a white fan brush to the apples of my cheeks, forehead and chin. If you have olive or a deep brown tone, try a gold bronzing dust with a cinnamon or coppery base.
Swap the eyeliner for eyeshadow. At some point, you may have to give up the stiff, black eyeliner. Trade it in for a slightly shimmery, navy-blue eyeshadow or a rich mahogany. With a small, slanted eyeshadow brush dab on the eyeshadow just like you would apply eyeliner. It gives you a flirty finish without the unwanted harsh wrinkling.
Wear fuller eyebrows. I don’t know why but when women get older we tend to lose brow hair. To make matters worse, some of us insist on wearing eyebrows ultra-thin and then color them back in with the wrong brow pencil color. You can’t do anything about eyebrow hair loss but if you want to look younger, let them grow out a tad. Fuller eyebrows make you look more youthful. Also, don’t neglect covering gray brows with a good pencil color or paint.
Go nude on your lips. I’m not talking about “I look dead” lipstick. The best, prettiest nudie lip color should accentuate your natural lip color, not wash you out.
Whip out the white stick. Oh, you can’t go wrong with a white stick. (And by this phrase I mean a concealer stick that is two shades lighter than your skin tone.) After you apply your foundation and before you dab on your normal shade of concealer, touch the sides of your nose and the upper corners of your mouth with the white stick. This will “lift” these areas and give younger look.
So those are a few of the tricks I use to get a youthful look. Try them all or just one or two!
