Thin wood or cardboard
When you have a party, whether it’s for the Fourth of July or a birthday, you almost always need trays and platters. You’ll need something to hold main dishes, cupcakes, appetizers, and more. If you’re hosting a party or celebration for the Fourth of July, there are many patriotic trays that you can create, and all of them are pretty easy to do. Some of them are disposable, some aren’t, but let’s get started!
A thin piece of rectangular or square wood makes a wonderful flag that can be used as a platter or tray. Make it quickly by wiping the smooth wood with a damp cloth and allowing the wood to dry. Cut a piece of white contact paper and affix it to one side of the wood. Then, cut lengths of red electrical tape and make stripes across the white contact paper. Use stick-on stars to finish the flag. This tray can be used for appetizers, lunch meat and cheese, prepared sandwiches, and more.
A piece of wood with a different shape, such as a circle, a star, or an Uncle Sam hat, can be found at a craft store. It, too, can be covered in contact paper and turned into a Fourth of July tray. Instead of using contact paper, you can paint the wood, but it will take a good bit of time to primer once and paint twice. You would then have to put on a clear-coat product but you would end up with a beautiful tray that can be used year after year.
A craft store often carries large Styrofoam pieces in various shapes. A big star will look fabulous as a patriotic tray. Either make a contact paper design, such as a white background, blue stars on it, and red stripes, or create your own design. Instead, you can glue on patriotic fabric. Star pins look great around the edges.
Stack the Styrofoam star trays to make a cupcake stand, too. Lay one star, glue a paper cup on upside-down – in the middle, and then glue on another star tray. Continue to stack two, three, or more stars.
Cut a cardboard rectangle, square, or star, and cover it with foil. The easy tray can be used for cake, cupcakes, sandwiches, and many other treats. Cover the cardboard with contact paper or patriotic gift wrap instead. Or, decorate a cutting board with contact paper for a different type of tray.
Yes, you’re going to need platters and trays for your Fourth of July party so you’d better get started. The holiday will be here before you know it and you want to make sure that you’re prepared – for relaxation and fun!
