When you think of college football there are certain things that spring to the front of your mind, something different that can be used to separate yourself from other teams is always a positive, no matter what form that may take. (underarmour) Certain teams will come up with seemingly endless options of uniform combinations and utilize the most bright colors possible in order to burn their image into your mind, others have taken the route of using an unnaturally colored field turf to play their home games. (uniformcritics) Boise State has been known for their blue turf for quite some time, it was something that made them unique, as a result it drew people to be their fans, it also inspired other teams to attempt to do the same thing with their fields. (broncosports) As if the blue and orange field turf wasn’t a big enough distraction to people who were watching college football another team decided to raise the stakes just a bit. The Eastern Washington Eagles saw Boise’s Blue turf at home and raised them a Flame Red playing surface of their own, if people thought that the blue field was crazy they need to look at Eastern Washington, once it is seen it can never been unseen, I assure you. It appears there’s a new team looking to make a statement in the ranks of NCAA football, for years now Eastern Michigan has been a bit of a joke in college football, they’ve been a bit of a joke in college sports, but they’re now trying to make a name for themselves outside of “constant loser.” (usatoday) Following the lead of Boise State and Eastern Washington the Eagles of Eastern Michigan have decided to make a drastic change to their stadium. (bleacherreport) Looking at things on the surface you would think that changing the color of the field on which Eastern Michigan plays would be a bit of an absurd idea, I mean Boise State uses blue and orange as those are their team colors, Eastern Washington uses black and red, also their team colors, meanwhile Eastern Michigan’s colors are green and white. (wikipedia) You may ask yourself, what the hell are they thinking, a team that wears green and white are going to go with a special “team color” field turf, I mean what are they going to do, make the field white with green lines? Nope, they’ve taken a bold step in choosing their new turf color…wait for it…GRAY! (collegefootballtalk) Yes, you heard that right, a team that’s been a joke for years in college football is now going with one of the most dull turf colors imaginable, because THAT’S going to make them less of a laughing stock, right? I guess it could be worse, they could be the Cleveland Browns.
