Ingredients and supplies:
3 tablespoons butter
Bag of marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies
Sucker or popsicle sticks
Candy sprinkles (optional)
Peeps marshmallow characters
Have you ever tried to push a popsicle or sucker stick into a marshmallow? It’s not as easy as you might think. Holding onto the marshmallow, and inserting the stick, you can believe that the marshmallow will become misshapen and smashed as you try to get the stick into the gooey treat. And, if the marshmallow is an Easter Peeps type, you don’t want that to happen. You won’t thrill a child with a Peeps pop that features a lopsided character. But if you’re thinking about Peeps pops as treats for Easter, you can get around the problem of putting the marshmallow on a stick by first putting the Peeps on something else – such as a Rice Krispies treat. The Easter surprise is colorful, delicious, and adorable.
You do know what a Peeps is, right? It’s a marshmallow, covered in colored sugar, and shaped to be a bunny, a chick, or another character. Loved by millions of kids, a Peeps is a great treat to give a child for Easter. All you have to do to get started is to microwave some butter and marshmallows. Put 3 tablespoons of butter in a microwave safe dish and then pour in a bag of regular-size marshmallows. Zap the ingredients for 3 minutes on high; remove and stir. When the mixture is completely melted, stir in 6 cups of Rice Krispies.
Pat the Rice Krispies mixture into a well-buttered, rectangular cake pan. Quickly cut it into squares or rectangles, and then insert a popsicle or sucker stick into each one. Lay them all out on wax paper. At that time, decide if you want frosting on the treats, and go ahead and frost them, if desired. The frosting will act as a glue for the Peeps character.
Lay a Peeps on each Rice Krispies treat and gently press it into the treat or into the frosting. Don’t leave the Peeps treats lying uncovered for a long period of time; the Peeps marshmallow characters can get stale quickly. It’s up to you if you leave the Peeps pops as they are or if you use candy sprinkles on the frosting to further create a cute look for Easter. When you’re finished, cover each pop with a cellophane bag, and tie it shut by using a ribbon.
Put Peeps Rice Krispie treats in Easter baskets or stand them up in a Styrofoam block to serve at a party. The simple treats are super scrumptious, colorful, and sweet as pie. What more can you ask from a marshmallow?
