When my kids told me they wanted to try something new this year for Easter, I jumped right on the chance to investigate what’s new in Easter egg decorating trends. Many moms, like myself, love creative ideas to keep the kids happy and entertained. So when opportunity knocked, I found myself browsing the world wide web for the best in Easter egg decorating ideas for 2014.
Everything from melted crayon codes to math equations, there were lots of cool ideas just awaiting to overload my mommy brain. One of the coolest ideas I came up with creatively myself was the melted crayon code idea. This is a fun do it yourself idea that the older kids will have a lot of fun with.
You will only need a white crayon and egg dye. First you will need to boil the eggs and after they are done, you will be able to write your secret ‘codes’ on the eggs with the white crayon. The warm egg will melt the crayon as you write on it. Once you are finished you will dip the egg into the dye. When you dip the egg into the dye you will be able to see the secret code you’ve written.
Another hot trend I’ve found from Sasinteriors was to use this technique but instead of dying the egg, use different color crayons to draw on the egg. As you draw on the hot egg with the crayons, they will melt giving the egg a neat design. This technique has also been a creative trend among artists that I have seen recently at art shows across the southern Ohio region. This idea is a safe way to let kids decorate with the mess.
If you have smaller children or prefer to use plastic eggs, a new idea I found from Pinterest suggests using blue, grey and yellow eggs to create Minion eggs such as the characters you see from the movie Despicable Me. This is a very easy and fun idea to do, and the kids will love it! With a few markers and shaky craft eyes, the kids will have fun making these eggs and will use them time and time again when Easter is over.
Something that I think my own children will love equally will be to find the glow in the dark Easter eggs. By using plastic eggs, I will place miniature glow sticks inside of the eggs and hide them throughout the house. When the lights go off before bedtime, we will have fun as we find them!
The last trendy idea I found for appealing Easter eggs is to get crafty! Scrapbooking has been hot for quite some time and it just keeps getting more popular. Everyone of all ages will love this hands on technique. By using everything from buttons to rice, simply glue your crafty items on the hard boiled egg and create your own unique egg. For additional fun, dye the egg fun colors before you begin your artwork.
With these crafty ideas you can’t go wrong. Have some fun this year with these amazing Easter egg decorating trends! What are you doing to get crafty this year with your eggs?
