Weight loss is hard. Okay, understatement of the century. I had to do something drastic for my weight loss to finally happen. No, not liposuction or pills that apparently make you look like a supermodel in two days. I moved to a different country! I moved to Mexico seven months ago, and in the first three months, I dropped thirty pounds. That’s ten pounds a month! Weight that I had been trying to drop for years in the United States. I am not suggesting you all go and leave your family, job, school, and boyfriend like I did. I am suggesting you do what I did here in Mexico that helped me drop the weight. Walk. A lot! Here are the changes you need to make to walk off that weight that’s holding you back from the new you.
Walk Everywhere: I mean everywhere guys! When I came to Mexico I came on an airplane. Which means no car in Mexico. I downloaded Moves, a pedometer app in the states a while back. I was averaging around 1,000 steps a day. I worked eight to five, and went to school 5:30 to 9pm. No real walking in America for this girl. In Mexico, I walk to the store, I walk to church, to school, to visit friends and family, anywhere and everywhere. My average steps in Mexico according to Moves is 15,000 a day.
Get a Pedometer: Get a pedometer or download the Moves app to your smart phone. If you’re like me and are only averaging 1,000 steps a day, try to boost those steps up to 2,000 and slowly up to 10,000 steps. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to the store if there is one nearby, join a walking club or start one with your friends, walk your dog (don’t have one? Walk someone else’s and earn a little extra cash while you lose the weight).
Eating Right: I can’t tell you that I am a super healthy eater. That would be a lie! I mean I had just moved to Mexico, you couldn’t get me away from all the amazing Mexican food that first month. But walking so much I still managed to lose weight. It only inspired me to eat right so that I could lose more! I eat six small (very small sometimes just a mango), meals a day. I eat every two to three hours because it keeps me satisfied with the small meals. I still eat tacos and unhealthy food every once in a while, but much less than I did before.
If you make these three changes in your life I guarantee you will lose weight. I know that it is hard, but summer is just around the corner! Which means your nearest and dearest get to see you in your swim suit. Don’t you want to shock them? If you eat right, and walk at least 10,000 steps a day you can lose up to 30lbs in 3 months. That’s just enough time peopled; go take a walk!
