‘Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’ Life … it’s the first one! If you care about freedom and life, caring for the environment is a given, no matter what side of the political aisle you support. Our environment sustains us, and if we don’t care for it … we lose. Central Florida has so many cool celebrations and activities slated for Earth Day 2014, everyone can join in. And you don’t have to hug a tree if you don’t want to, but by the end of one of these great events, you might not be able to contain yourself!
1) Earth Day Celebration: Come Celebrate the Way Girl Scouts Do It! This fun event begins Sunday, April 13 at 3:00 pm at Twin Oaks Conservation Area at 2001 Macy Island Road in Kissimmee. The celebration includes recycling activities, hiking, and discussions with bird experts. Bring a friend and receive a special patch! You don’t have to be a Girl Scout to participate, but you will need to register.
2) Disney Party for the Planet: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park opened its doors Earth Day, April 22, 1998. Every year since, Disney never fails to host great Earth Day events. This year the whole family can join in the celebration with Disney’s Party for the Planet events being held throughout the park and inside Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. These events are included in regular admission to Animal Kingdom, and include face painters, caricature artists, and vendors selling ‘green’ merchandise.
3) Valencia College Earth Day Event: Join Valencia for an Earth Day celebration being held Thursday, April 10 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. This fun and informative event, sponsored by Valencia’s Earth Science Association (VESA) and Student Development, will be held at the East Campus, Mall Area, 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando.
