The event began with Dwele, a soft-spoken, very humble and respectful young man (what I experienced in the greenroom) who, once on stage, transformed into an ultimate performer. He displayed an intimate knowledge of the piano before he took popular songs and sung them with various phrasing: jazz, r&b, reggae, etc. To the surprise of everyone he came into the audience, where I thought he just might need a bodyguard, and the WOMEN, myself included, went crazy!
Next up was Goapelle who was eloquently dressed in a floral print puff dress. This was the first time I heard her live and she blew me away with the range of her voice. OMG! Not only is she gorgeous, sporting short blond hair, but she sang a Chaka Khan song and hit it out into orbit.
Lastly, Musiq Soulchild took us on a melodic journey where we shook to the syncopated beats of his signature sound, rocked to the melodies of the songs he reminded us as belonging to him, and climaxed with vibrations which eminated from the brass ensemble. In fact, the brass section had their own dance routine and his brother and sister floored everyone with solo performances . THUS… the Sound of Musiq…!
The entire production was professional produced. From the time you turned on the street and electronic signs directing you where to park, to the outside chic lounge they created with mini fire pits . The green room atmosphere had a no-stress atmosphere. If their team had issues…. no one could see it or feel it! Everybody was wonderful and the food was great!
This should not be a surprise! Rainbow Promotions, LLC. are the producers of the Long Beach Jazz Festival, one of the city’s most popular annual musical events . In addition, the newly renovated Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center has become the go to venue for their premium events including the recent ‘Valentines’ Concert with Marcus Miller, Najee, Euge Groove and Phil Perry.
Up next for Rainbow Promotions, LLC. is the May 10th Comedy Explosion featuring: DL Hughley, Deray Davis and Gary Owen to be followed by the Piece de resistance, The Long Beach Jazz Festival, now in its 27th year, on August 9th and 10th, 2014.
