When I first started dating my now-husband, we would spend every Friday night at the drive-in theater. I really looked forward to those nights out under the stars. We would take our van, take out the back seat and use it as a couch, bring our own food, snacks and drinks and snuggle up for a great date night. Here are a few of the theaters near me.
Mission Tiki Drive-In Theatre – Located at 10798 Ramona Ave. Montclair, CA 91763 (909) 628-0511
This is my #1 most favorite of them all. With the look like you’re in Hawaii the decor makes it a fun experience. Playing movies on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings this place transforms into a Swap Meet between 6am – 2pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Claiming to have the brightest digital projectors on the planet you can expect to experience vivid picture quality, crystal clear viewing and hi-fi digital audio!
This next theater is the one I grew up going to with my family, and I have such fond memories of those times. Before the movie and during intermission we would run up to the front where they had toys for us to play on. It was great catching the cartoons that played before the movies and looking up at that huge screen while playing on the swings or merry-go-round was awesome. One of my favorite memories that does not exist any longer is the speaker we used to attach to our window, so cool but replaced with the use of our radios now.
Vineland Drive-In & Swap Meet – Located at 443 N. Vineland Ave. City of Industry, CA (626) 961-9262
Open 7 days a week with the gates opening at 6pm on weekends and 6:30 during the week.
- General Admission (9 years old and up) $9
- Children (5-8) $3
- Children under 5 are FREE!
The movie that shows first is replayed after the second for those that come in late or missed the first showing so you are sure to get your monies worth.
My third choice of theaters to share with you is a blast with $8 adult tickets and $1 for kids you will enjoy two movies for the price of one. You are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and sit outside while you enjoy the night air and the movie at the same time. You can get all the goodies at the snack bar and they have some awesome carne asada nachos so be sure to give them a try.
Van Buren Drive-In Theatre – Located at 3035 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92503 (951) 688-2360
With three screens to choose from you can count on all the best movies being offered. Currently playing on screen one is Captain America: The Winter Soilder with Muppets Most Wanted. You can click the movie link to find out the other movies playing and more about this amazing theater.
Regardless of which drive-in theater you go to, there is nothing like the food from the snack bar. I always loved to get the pizza. With the low entrance fee you should be able to afford something from the snack bar, and don’t forget the enjoy the toys under the screen if they are still there.
