Hanging out with friends around Cocke County, Tennessee, may include stopping at a local stomping ground. Check out these four food hot spots.
- Sandra’s Bar– Located at 2130 Highway 160 in Newport, Tennessee- Sandra’s has been around for a while now. The outside is rather old looking but the local seen to enjoy the atmosphere and always knowing someone from somewhere. If your family has ever been tied to Cocke County, they know them. Located on a dangerous curve, I would be weary of having one too many but the locals never seem to mind.
- Grapevine Tavern– Located on Hwy 160 in Newport TN, the Grapevine features outside tables and lights to glow in the might. A highly frequented bar with a little curbside appeal, they seem to hop on many night. Located near a dangerous curve, you would think some would maybe want to hang somewhere else but locals never seem to mind coming and leaving. It is a great place for locals to socialize and bring out-of-towners to meet new people. They will fit in if they just relax.
- Buddy’s Lounge & Restaurant– Located at 4242 Chavis Rd, Cosby, TN – bring the locals in by the handful. While a bit much to take in from the outside it is one of the only local bars for patron to stop in and stay awhile. There is always some pool or darts to play. If you are not a local, you may feel uncomfortable with the company of a “respected” local.
- Smiley’s Good Food and Good Times– Located at 571 West Broadway in Newport, TN, appears to be a small town place to eat since the sign always has some pizza, wing or others tasty deal going on, but look around the side and back and you will find corn toss, and other local traditions with a nice place to sit and relax outside. While fairly new to the area, this place should bring relaxing places to sit and chat awhile back to par.
There are some places that even most locals steer away from and other’s than those local can sit and relax. Many of the so called dive bars have since been pushed out by the presence and involvement of local officials. It is within right that many are now able to occasionally go about and enjoy themselves. Just be safe and be right when you decide to travel back to where you came from and I see no problems in hanging out for a night on the town.
