A National Institutes of Health – AARP Diet and Health study was done on more than 400,000 individuals. it found that drinking coffee may extend life span. . From 1995 and 2008, male participants who drank only one cup of Joe a day, decreased their risk of dying by 6%.
The study found that whether participants drank two to three cups of coffee daily or six cups, their risk of death was reduced by 10% . The greatest decease in the risk of dying was in the group who were drinking four to five cup each day. They slashed their risk by 12%.
My wife’s grandmother drank 2 cups of coffee a day for most of her life. She lived to be age 91. My wife drinks coffee each day, sometimes 2 or 3 cups a day. At age 55 she walks 3 or more miles a day, and has competed twice in the 100 meter dash in the Subway Commonwealth games. Her only health issue is keeping her cholesterol down..
I cannot prove that coffee has played a role in her health, but based on the research, I am sure coffee helped. Coffee has been one of the top drinks, around the world for hundreds of years. Scientists however are only now beginning to recognize the benefits it offers our health, including length of life.
