I am a big fan of Doctor Who. It is a British science fiction series from BBC Television, which features a very old but non-aging and handsome young time traveler or time lord from the planet Gallifrey who travels across time with a companion, visiting places, saving people and having adventure. This is an epic television series that has spanned for more than four decades now. It started airing in 1963 and was discontinued in 1989 and was picked back up in 2005 and is currently running on its 12th doctor.
The Doctor is a time traveling humanoid who explores universe in his TARDIS which is a time travelling ship in shape of a blue British police box which was a common sight in Britain when the show was first aired. I am an avid fan of Doctor Who and have watched all the episodes till date.
This show has won and received recognition as Britain’s finest television programs winning several awards such as National Television Awards and more. The program is even listed in Guinness World Records as the longest running science fiction television show in the world and the most successful science fiction series of all times. The Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary special was the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama airing at the same time in UK and US and other areas.
The show as such is a cult favorite, having influenced generations of British television professionals. Though the concept is very simple and the episodes may feature low-budget special effects, it is recognized for its imagination and ability to captivate audiences, old and young alike.
So far, eleven actors have featured in the coveted role of Doctor Who. It was a big event recently when they announced the newest Doctor played by Peter Capaldi who took over the role from Matt Smith. They handled the transition of the Doctors pretty cleverly. They were able to write the transition as a process of regeneration where the old Doctor reincarnates into new Doctor with a new body and face.
With the huge following among general viewing audience, Doctor Who has managed to captivate generations and is a popular show in the Britain’s pop culture now.
