Don’t waste food, save it instead! Simply stick it in the refrigerator or in your freezer. Here are some foods that you can save right now:
Popcorn – Do you have popcorn left over from the family movie night? Place the bowl, uncovered, in the refrigerator. It will keep fresh and crisp for the next few days.
Bread – If you keep your bread on the kitchen counter it is exposed to higher temperatures, therefore making it mold quicker. Store in the refrigerator for freshness. You can also freeze the bread and let it thaw out for a couple of hours before use.
Hot dog / Hamburger buns – If you have any hamburger buns left over from your grilling party stick them in the freezer. It is easy to waste food when you have company and have more food in the house than usually. You forget you have it, therefore it molds.
Milk – Never run out of milk again. When you do your grocery shopping, purchase two or three gallons of milk and freeze them. Make sure to pour about a cup out of each gallon before freezing to avoid over spilling during the freezing process. Don’t worry about the expiration date, because since you froze it, it will still be good for several days after you thaw it out.
Lollipops – Keep leftover candy in the freezer. It will stay cool and not leave a mess on the counter tops. Plus it will save you money because you are not throwing away a half eaten lollipop.
Coffee – Store the bag of coffee in the freezer. It will stay fresher longer, just like with anything else that you freeze.
Cereal and grains – Place the boxes of cereal, pasta and rice in your refrigerator. It keeps them clear of humidity and unwanted pests, like Indian mill moths.
If you are not sure what you should keep in the freezer just remember that you can freeze almost anything. You can store even more in the freezer. Save your food!
