”Divergent,” the film based on the young adult series by Veronica Roth, created plenty of hype leading up to the March 21 premiere, but one of the biggest spikes in interest came after the release of the opening movie track “Find You” (which is likely the key song of the ”Divergent” soundtrack). A stellar performance by Zedd (featuring song writers Matthew Koma and Miriam Bryant) at the South by Southwest confab launched this incredible track into the spotlight; released only a week prior to the ”Divergent” premiere, the audio recording was the perfect teaser to get fans even more excited about the highly anticipated unveiling of the film.
Great lyrics bridge the gap between current fans and newcomers to the ”Divergent” world.
Koma and Bryant’s “Find You” is a touching, memorable song that speaks of love and devotion, that seems to have struck a chord with not only dire-hard fans of Roth’s hit book series, but also with strangers to the ”Divergent” world who have stumbled upon the track online on Yahoo! Music and other websites.
“I’ll run away with your foot steps/I’ll build a city that dreams for two/And if you lose yourself/I will find you,” sang Zedd during the acoustic performance.
Will the ”Divergent” soundtrack join the songs-from-a-film unofficial hall of fame?
As a long-time fan of movie soundtracks (I’d call myself a connoisseur of sorts), I’m thrilled to see such an eagerly awaited film being associated with the kind of music that Koma and Bryant produce. Given the high standards set by recent films, such as ”The Hunger Games” and ”Frozen,” the soundtrack for ”Divergent” certainly has a long way to go to end up in the big leagues — and it just might get there.
The official “Find You” music video, which was published on YouTube on March 16, seamlessly flows with the haunting lyrics in a believable, logical way – unlike so many videos to hit songs in recent years. Although it stands alone from ‘Divergent,’ lacking footage from the movie itself, it complements the track without overshadowing this key film association. You can watch the video here, on Zedd’s official YouTube channel.
“Find You” is the sort of song that gets stuck in your head, lodged in your brain with unshakeable efficiency, which is exactly what films like ‘Divergent’ need; the longer the song stays with you – or haunts you, with its catchy beat and heart-breaking lyrics – the sweeter the anticipation of seeing the film will likely be. And “Find You” is without a doubt one of the most touching, emotionally-charged tracks I’ve heard this year; I only hope the rest of the soundtrack is so spellbinding.
”Divergent” opened nationwide on March 21 with limited showings beginning the night before in select cities.
