A cake stand is a pretty and functional way to display your baked goods, but how often do you really use yours? If you feel your cake stands are just taking up space, make them work for it. You can use cake stands for a lot more than cakes. Here are some fun ideas.
Tired of the traditional fruit bowl? Try a fruit tray. Set up your cake stand in the middle of the table. Arrange the fruit on the tray surfaces. If you have a cupcake stand with two levels, you can drape grapes over the edge of the top layer for decorative effect.
Another good use for a 2-tiered stand is for organization and storage. An old cupcake stand on your bathroom vanity gives you a pretty place to store all of those little items that end up on the counter top. Or use a cupcake stand in the guest bath with small packages of soaps, lotions and other supplies your guests might need. The same idea works for organizing jewelry, office supplies, cleaning supplies and craft items.
The same idea works for the kitchen. Find a corner of the counter top where the stand won’t take up a lot of space. Use the trays for things like spices that you use frequently. The items are convenient on the counter, but the display looks nicer than just having a bunch of spice bottles lying around. You can also use a small cake stand to decoratively store dish washing supplies, such as the detergent, scrubber and sink plug.
If you have a cupcake or cake stand that you love, why not put it on display? Use the stand as part of a centerpiece of decorative display in your home. Add other small decorations on the trays to dress it up. At Christmas time, cover the trays with pine boughs. Arrange glass Christmas ornaments on top. In the spring, arrange flowers or faux eggs on the trays. Pumpkins, gourds, pine cones and nuts work well for an autumn display. Or choose a favorite decoration you already have to put it on the cake stand. The stand elevates the decoration and makes it the star.
