How will you be celebrating Memorial Day this year? If you live in the Denver Metro Area of Colorado, here are a couple of ideas on what to do this Memorial Day weekend! Most of them are free to take part in. So, if you need an idea or two, here are some of the fun things to do in our area.
Downtown Denver Arts Festival- I saw this a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed myself. There is a lot of beautiful and unique pieces of art to admire. This is the 16th year celebrating Memorial Day with art displays. It is a free event, located at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. This event runs from May 23 – May 25. Denver Day of Rock– This will be my first year attending this event. I have had a lot of friends recommend going to this free event located on the 16th Street Mall strip. They will have several stages set up all along the mall. This event will take place from May 23 – May 24. The hours of this free event are from 2:30pm – 9:30pm both days. This year the featured artists will be The Wallflowers, Plain White T’s, and the Wendy Woo Band.
Memorial Day Parade– This event is hosted by the city and county of Denver. It will take place on May 24 at 10 am. The parade begins at the corner of 14th Ave and Court, downtown Denver.
Water World– In true water world tradition, they will be opening the park for Memorial Day Weekend. With opening day being May 24 They are open from 10 am – 6pm. Tots 40″ are free and get free Pharaoh’s Feast All You Care To Eat Dinning with paid dining guest. Child heights 40″ to 47″ ticket cost for all day entry is $35.99 plus tax, and half day ticket entry is $22.99 plus tax. Child Pharaoh’s Feast All You Care to Eat Dining Option is $13.99 plus tax. General Admission Heights 48″ and above ticket prices for all day entry is $40.99 plus tax, and half day entry is $25.99 plus tax. Elitch Gardens– This amusement park is such a blast! They have a water park as well. They are doing their fireworks show on May 25. They will start the show when the sun goes down. They are open from 10am – 10pm. While your there, make sure you check out the parks newest attraction, Brain Drain. The Brain Drain is a seven story, steel looping thrill ride. It moves forwards, and backwards and at certain points in the ride, your feet will be over your head! Their ticket prices are as follows: Children three years of age and under are free. Seniors (62 and older) are $31.99. Children under 48″ tall are $31.99. And adults 48″ or taller are $45.99. And parking is $15. Tickets are cheaper when purchased at the gate rather than online. However, tickets can also be purchased at your local King Soopers. Do NOT buy tickets from Craigslist or Ebay, because they are fraudulent!
