I’m often amazed at how many spas there are in Connecticut. My area of the state — the dozen or so miles around the capitol of Hartford — is bursting at the seams with them. It seems every mall or street has at least one spa or nail salon, and they’re all doing enough business to stay open.
Not all of these spas are top-notch, and prices fluctuate wildly from town to town. The only downside to a visit to any spa is the price, which is why I frequently choose shorter-term services (like a half-hour mini-facial or mini-manicure).
Here are four reasonably-priced, clean and higher-quality spas in the central Connecticut area:
XES Spa Lounge
This chic, upscale and modern spa in Hartford’s affluent neighboring town of West Hartford is relatively new and already known for its quality. Parking is on the street in a culturally-diverse (and safe) area.

Pros: Top-level service and knowledgeable staff
Cons: One of the more expensive in the area, many services are around the $100 range; but half-hour facials are $45.
Shear Artistry Day Spa and Salon
This spa, set in the idyllic, wealthy suburb of Avon, is known for its high-quality service and cheerful atmosphere. It’s easy to get to and has either street or lot parking next to the building. Open since 1979, this spa has a great reputation for excellent service and hair stylists in a clean, upscale atmosphere.

From Tips to Toes
Located in the charming and trendy downtown area of Southington, this soothing, award-winning spa is known for casual and satisfying atmosphere with high-quality services. They stay open late so you can relax with a facial after work. Parking is on the street.

Pros: This place is also popular with men, who go for messages and body waxing. Pedicures and manicures are excellent.
Cons: Manicures start at $25; a ” Pinot Noir Shellac” spa manicure costs $63.
This cozy, popular spa in the center of Plainville’s small business district is famous with locals for pedicures that end with a rose to take home. This moderately-priced place is clean and bright, and the staff is cheerful. Parking is in a lot near the spa.

Pros: The attractive spa is soothing right away and the staff are very friendly and professional. They offer creative, modern services like cool stone massages and seaweed treatments.
Cons: Half-hour facials are $55, a bit on the steep side.
