Pool noodles make a fun water toy, but they also work well on dry land. You can use the foam noodles for a variety of crafts and activities. Pool noodles are inexpensive, so these activities are affordable even if you don’t already have pool noodles on hand.
Use pool noodles to create backyard games. Use lengths of noodles to make hurdles for an obstacle course. Prop them up on low chairs or flower pots.
Tape lengths of noodles into a loop to make a ball toss game. Hang the loop from a piece of string. Have your child toss balls through the loops.
You can also use pool noodle loops for a ring toss game. Stand one length upright. Put a stake in the ground. Put a straight length of a noddle over the stake to make the pole. The kids toss the rings onto it.
For this activity, you need to cut the pool noodle into lengths about 1 inch long. Some pool noodles are shaped almost like flowers, which make the craft more fun. You’ll also need a piece of rope. The kids string the pieces of pool noodle onto the rope. This is a good coordination activity for young kids.
Pool Noodle People
Use pieces of pool noodles to create little people or animals. The kids add little details to the noodle to make it look like a person. They might glue on googly eyes or pieces of yarn for hair. The hole through the middle of the pool noodle can make the person into a finger puppet.
Turn the pool noodles into decorative flowers with this craft. For a round pool noodle, cut a small section for the middle. Cut out a flower shape from a piece of construction paper. Cut out a circle in the middle of the flower the same size as the pool noodle. Slide the flower onto the noodle. The kids can decorate the flowers.
For a pool noodle that is already shaped like a flower, cut a section. Put a pompom in the hole for the middle of the flower. Use a pipe cleaner to make the stem.
You can also make a flower picture by using the flower shaped pool noodle. Cut a piece of the noodle. Stamp it in paint. Press the flower onto the paper.
