Correspondence Courses are very popular and successful. They can be extremely useful for those who cannot attend classes or lectures. Queries can easily be answered – either by email or telephone. The majority of people who partake in correspondence courses are students seeking to pass their GCSEs or A-Levels, but there are also some whose sole purpose for taking them is personal interest/development.
Unfortunately big correspondence schools don’t often offer their courses at little cost (which can be understandable). This is probably because they have staff & business expenses to pay. However, there are some online correspondence schools which offer courses at minimal cost. You just have to find them.
The big guys are ICS and the Open University. Most of their courses are pretty expensive though; usually ranging from £250 – £500.
Another correspondence school – not a particularly “big” one – is Insight Tuition. They current offer two courses; Sociology GCSE and Psychology GCSE. You can buy each long course for £198 and each short course for £120. You can also purchase the individual units for £22 each. This is considerably less than the “big guys”. There isn’t much of a variety of courses at the moment, but I’ve heard that much more are on the way.
I have tested each of these services – and I can say they’re all pretty high quality.
I can also say Insight Tuition’s sociology course was significantly better than the others though.
So take your pick!
