The most important factor in dealing with PTSD is getting counseling and learning the coping skills that are necessary to counter the overwhelming emotions and triggers that accompany this disorder. It is always recommended that people who have PTSD seek professional help and/or support groups to aid them in dealing with their suffering. It is through counseling that victims can gain understanding and acquire the skills they need so that they are empowered to lead positive and healthy lives.

Some people who suffer from PTSD have a very difficult time functioning in their daily lives and find themselves spending increasing amounts of time at home away from people. Others who suffer from the disorder have done a great deal of emotional work on their traumatic experience. The highest level of transcendence for a PTSD victim is when they are able to assimilate the traumatic event enough to reach a place where they work to help others in some capacity who struggle with similar traumas.
