A Smart television allows you to access the internet by connecting to a WiFi network or a LAN connection. This allows you stream high definition videos, play with applications that are compatible with the television, and browse or share digital data. But first, you need to ensure that your Smart TV is internet-ready. If it is, there are two ways you can connect to the internet.
- 1. Using a wireless network
Depending on the type of Smart television you have, the option to set-up a WiFi connection is normally found on the settings menu. Choose the Network tab and select the network you want to connect with from among the available options. If it is a secured network, you will be asked to key in the security password. Choose CONNECT and this will automatically connect you to that network. If errors occur, ensure that your password is correct, or that the WiFi network has no limit for allowable number of connections as this might have already exceeded.
- 2. Using Ethernet Cable
Your Smart television is equipped with a LAN port if it is internet-ready. Simply plug-in one end of you Ethernet cable to the television’s LAN port and plug the other end to your modem. Under the network tab, set the network type to WIRED. This will automatically connect you to the internet, no more security passwords needed.
Remember that a dial-up connection may not provide you with excellent performance. It will affect the resolution of your television in streaming your videos. A broadband connection is recommended to enjoy high definition videos.
If you are having problems connecting your computer or laptop to a WiFi network, you can do the following:
- 1. If your desktop computer or laptop (which is probably an old version) is not equipped with a built-in WiFi, you can purchase a PCI WiFi card and have it installed. Installation is easy and manageable. If you think you can follow through the step-by-step procedure in the manual, you might not need an expert to do this.
Once your wireless card is installed, you can check your Network settings on the Control Panel and connect to the networks available. You will need to key in a security password when connecting to a protected network.
- 2. If you want to connect through a wired network, follow step number two above. Your computer/laptop has an Ethernet port where you need to plug in one end of the cord. This will automatically connect you to the internet.
