The opposite of seeking to conquest is seeking companionship. You truly desire to connect with someone and share in experiences. The road to companionship often starts with going outside your comfort zone. Based on the vulnerability that connecting embodies there will be apprehension.
There are three indicators that you are seeking companionship. If this is a new path for you be sure to acknowledge their existence. It does not make you weak to need people in your life. Turning away from collecting conquests and forming real relations is a healthy shift. As you walk through it, take a moment and honor every sign that you are changing.
The most pronounced indicator that you are seeking something authentic is availability. You are able to present in the exchange more fully. The people you interact with are no longer objects in your mind. You find yourself invested in their well-being and you are willing to connect with them on a deeper level.
Intimacy is not limited to the physical realm. As you seek, companionship closeness is a must. Sharing the depths of who you are with them is the epitome of this affection. To most of us, this feels uncomfortable. There is a lack of control in this exchange because it is a release. Walk through it, and you will find the freedom you have never known. Also, your relationships will be stronger for the foundation you help build.
For those of us who struggle with companionship, comfort is the biggest shift. We have been loners and introverts. Unable to ask for help or depend on the kindness of others. As we form these new connections we no longer have to live within that solitude. Having someone to talk to at the end of a long hard day breeds comfort. You know that you are not alone, and someone cares.
