Every once in a while there is a person that defines an age. A person that does what they do so well that you simply have to love them or hate them. Someone who not only changes the course of history but sometimes directly impacts your life to such a degree that he starts you down a long road of love and hate that you could never turn back from.
Mitch Hedberg was simply the best. He is sadly no longer among us and he is one of the few people in my life, family included, that made me wanna cry when I heard the news. He probably was my inspiration to love comedy as much as I do now. His Comedy Central half hour special was one of the best moments of my childhood. I know it sounds like I am being dramatic but he single handily changed the way me and my friend talked for our entire high school career. He was just that memorable. Anytime we were in a room together we always acted and talked just like Mitch. In my opinion his live performances were a great deal better then his albums but I love all his work. Now in life I know its really easy to get jaded so please see for yourself and listen to everything of his as you possibly can and tell me what you think his best work is. This is more then a review but an ode to the long gone drug enthusiast that is probably responsible for what I am doing right now, Mitch Hedberg.
I really can’t prove a favorite track honestly but I honestly love his first album Mitch Hedberg – Strategic Grill Locations simply because the comedy on top of the bass line is just freaking fantastic. A fair warning he probably isn’t for everyone and I will admit I certainly am extremely biased. If you like Steven Wright you will probably love him even more. Anyone ever inspire you?
