Countless times in childhood you probably heard the command “clean your room,” issued by your commanding officer–mom. At the time, you probably thought it was pointless busywork. However, the benefits of cleaning your room are many, and vitally important to your overall health. The following discussed why to clean your room and how to do it properly.
1) Decreases Stress
Having a tidy room can make you feel less stressed. For myself, I’ve definitely found this to be true. When I constantly trip over things in my room, have a full garbage can, and clothes thrown around, I can feel more stressed and frustrated. It’s as if de-cluttering leads to de-stressing. Having things organized and clean can go a long way in reducing your overall stress.
2) Get Rid of Things You Don’t Need
The point of cleaning is not only to make things less dusty, it’s to make things more roomy and efficient. Keeping things that you never use and serve no purpose end up just cluttering your room. Gather up all the belongings in your room that no longer belong there, and either get rid of them, pack them in storage, or sell them.
3) Dust all furniture and shelves
Before organizing things, it is a good idea to take everything off of your shelves and dust them completely. Afterwards, you can determine the organization of the shelves and place things where they belong. In the meantime, if you see garbage on the shelves, be sure to throw it in a trash bag so that it doesn’t get left for the next time you clean.
4) Put all clothes away
If there are any clothes visible in your room, put them in your dresser, storage, or closet. There is no need for them to be out, so you might as well make efficient use of your space. While looking at all your clothes, be sure to put aside any clothes that you no longer need. Once again, this will enable you to get rid of the things you no longer have need of.
5) Vacuum the floor
After everything is dusted, put away, and the garbage is thrown out, then it is a great time to vacuum the floor. It’s great to save this as one of the last things to do because everything else is already in order and tidy. Once your down vacuuming, you can automatically see your accomplishment and relax with your newly cleaned room!
6) Enjoy the cleanliness
Once your room is clean and dusted, spray some air freshener or light a candle in order to give it a good smell. Then, enjoy the cleanliness by watching a movie in your room, reading a book, or even taking a nap. Chances are, you will enjoy living in your room more, now that it is clean and tidy.
