I purchased Clean and Clear Advantage Oil Absorbing Treatment for the Salicylic Acid in it because I have used it in a gel and liked it. I was thinking it would be nice in this oil absorbing cream for other areas. I was shocked at the strong perfume smell and after one or two uses I gave it to my daughter who was not as bothered by the smell.
General Info: This Salicylic Acid treatment is a light white cream that quickly absorbs into your skin. The idea is that it is supposed to help absorb oils in your skin to help reduce or heal outbreaks. It is a nice consistency but the scent is just way too strong. It is beyond me why this company would add fragrance to an acne treatment! Just crazy!
Packaging: The product comes in a 1.5oz tube with a plastic flip top lid. The first time you use it you will have to remove a foil seal. The product also is packaged inside a box. I am not sure why they need all this extra packaging but the box can probably be recycled. There was a lot of information printed on the box but most of it was also on the tube.
Instructions for use: Start with clean and dry skin and then apply a thin layer to the affected area. You can use it up to three times daily but it is suggested that you start with one application because it can have a drying effect on your skin. Too much salicylic acid will cause peeling so please be careful. If you have any peeling reduce the dosage to once a day or every other day.
Cautions: Keep away from children. This product can cause dry skin. To avoid overly irritating your skin, do not use too many combined acne products. The more you use together the greater the chance of irritation, drying and peeling.
My thoughts on using Clean and Clear Advantage Oil Absorbing Treatment
I used this product a few times but the high perfume level in it made me discontinue using it. I had used another product that was similar but the CVS brand and it did not contain the fragrance. That product worked great so I am guessing if you can tolerate the fragrance this would work for you as well. The scent was like a strong flowery perfume. I put some of it on my chin and the smell was nauseating. It did fade over time but I just hated the smell. To be fair I am very sensitive to scents so some people may find this product ok to use. My daughter was here visiting and I let her try it. She did not mind the scent and took it off my hands.
I did like the consistency of the cream and was hopeful that it would be a product I could use to keep my little blemishes from turning into eczema. Unfortunately I just can not use it.
Final thoughts and rating
I was very disappointed with this product and can not recommend it. I will give it 2 stars since my daughter did not seem to mind the scent but it is beyond me why a company includes a fragrance in any medication intended to apply to irritated skin.
