I always liked Donovan’s “Universal Soldier”. His lyrics blame the 99% as they go :
“He’s the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,
They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can’t you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war.”
Nice lyrics, but I can’t agree with them. The poor 99% is given a pack of words that he has to believe are true. The kids parents might have been in the military and the kid grew up idolizing them. The kid hears he must protect the US so he does so.
Who is one of the hugest liars? Who was reviled just a decade ago?
The article “Dick Cheney, did you really want to go there?” illustrates that Dick Cheney can’t control his desire to send our kids off to die in wars.
He was pilloried for lying us into the Iraq War. He was cursed as being a “Chicken Hawk” and hiding behind exemptions when it was his turn for the military. Still he attacks the President Obama administration as being weak and yearns for more US kids to becomes victims of his foolish war.
He and his daughter wrote an article for a right-wing propaganda organ in which they made typical neocon assertions and attacks on those who don’t agree with them.
The article states “It’s not every day that a leader of the previous administration suggests that the current president is a “fool” and accuses him of intentionally weakening the United States.”
He wrote about President Obama “Only a fool,” they say, “would believe American policy in Iraq should be ceded to Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terror.”
Cheney and his willful minion Bush 43 got us into a war that had to play out as it had. Kurds, Shiites and Sunnis have been attacking each other since the dawn of the time. Getting into a war in that area will result in a quagmire. Every thinking being knew that, yet Cheney has the nerve to spread this swill.
The Cheney’s of the world knows a great majority of US citizens want to believe their leaders. They know whatever tripe they propagate will be believed by too many of our misinformed populace.
The article states “Thanks to the Cheney op-ed, we can see how Obama’s hawkish critics are out to create a double standard. Whenever they are called out for how mistaken they were about Iraq in the first place, they piously lecture against “relitigating the past” and say we must instead look forward. At the same time, many of them feel perfectly free to trash the president in extreme and even vile terms.”
What can be done when we are in a quagmire? The article states “I am all for looking forward and trying to find an approach that squares the many contradictions we face: of needing to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria while also pushing Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to stop pursuing anti-Sunni policies that are empowering the forces we need to turn back; of being on the same side as Iran in Iraq’s current emergency but on opposite sides over Syria; of wanting to avoid steps that will make things worse while not being paralyzed; and of not plunging into the middle of a Shiite-Sunni civil war while trying to stop the region’s descent into chaos.
Obama sees these contradictions and says he won’t act rashly. You don’t have to agree with Obama’s every move to prefer his prudence to the utter certainty that “we will be greeted as liberators” and to a habit of underestimating the costs of military action.”
The Cheney’s of the world are beneath contempt. They got us into a quagmire and want to change reality to avoid all blame and place it other people-in this case President Obama.
