RLS stands for Restless Leg Syndrome which is an uncomfortable sleep disorder. It affects around one in ten people and it can be quite annoying. It’s incurable but can be calmed down by a couple tips that I will explain to you. RLS seems to take into affect when the leg is at rest and the person begins to feel a tingly and or painful sensation in their legs. This condition isn’t dangerous but it becomes extremely uncomfortable for the person and may cause the lack of sleep which may introduce more than a few health problems like depression and anxiety.
The following tips that I will explain will help reduce and or calm this condition.
Like any other health problems one might have, exercising is one of the best ways to kick those problems out of the park! Exercising more than a few times a week can reduce RLS in multiple ways. Exercising during the day will help the muscles to become active and flexible which will then help reduce RLS. After a long work out most people want to eat their meal and go right to sleep. Exercising is exhausting and that is why its a benefit for people who have RLS. Exercising will help the person fall asleep because people who have RLS have a hard time sleeping. Obesity has about a 40% chance of increasing the chance of getting RLS. That’s is why you need to work out and sculpt your body and become healthy!
Light exercising and stretching goes a long with the above paragraph. Light exercising such as jogging for 30 minutes or running for 30 minutes should be fine to get the blood pumping as well as getting the muscles warmed up. Going for a short walk or playing a game of H.O.R.S.E or something along those lines outside with your kids or some friends is also perfect. Stretching effectively can really calm down RLS if you do it correctly. A simple stretching exercise which you can do is: Point your toes towards the ceiling, sit up and extend your arms towards your feet. When doing this simple stretching technique you will stretch out your calf muscles and will most likely reduce that tingly sensation!
Taking care of your sleeping schedule is also very important! The lack of sleep is extremely common among people who have RLS. Getting a machine that produces white noise has helped some people fall asleep more than others. Removing any electronics from the bedroom can make a huge difference also. This varies from person to person, but you need to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Adjust the bedroom or wherever you sleep to the most comfortable way possible!
Essentially warming being warm will help calm down RLS. You could try soaking a blanket with water and putting it over your legs may help. Try out different things that will warm up your muscles because a warm muscle will feel good, and it will most definitely reduce the chance of having those tingly sensations in your legs!
Eating correctly is another important aspect of calming down RLS! Stay away from anything that will make you energetic like sugar, alcohol, and caffeine! You should most likely eat foods that are rich in iron like fish, beans, and meat. Vitamins also play a huge role in calming down RLS!
From these tips you should get the basic idea of how to calm down RLS and sleep tight for the night!
