A bundt cake can be an astounding dessert, with it’s unusual shape, and that frosting drizzled all over it. The cake itself can be any flavor and can even offer surprises as you cut into it, such as candies, or patches of peanut butter. But if you have no bundt cake pan you’re out of luck. Sure, you can always do the typical round cake, or a rectangular version, but it’s just not as appealing as the beautiful shape and look of a bundt cake. How can you make bundt cakes without a specialty pan? Make bundt cake cupcakes! They look like bundt cakes, but they’re much smaller, and each one can be a treat for a guest at a party, or for a family member after supper.
When you bake a cake there are certain things that you might use, such as foil and a metal pan. But one thing that you never cook with in the oven is wood. But you’ll make an exception when you bake bundt cake cupcakes. Small pieces of wood will help you design the unusual desserts that everyone will love. And, you won’t have to go out and purchase specialty pans for the job.
Short, fat, wooden dowels make the holes in the bundt cake cupcakes. Shop for the dowels at a home improvement or craft store; they’re sold in a bag of several for a couple of bucks. Wrap each one in foil and you’ll be ready to bake the bundt cakes. It’s important that the foil at one end of the dowel be flat and smooth. That will help the peg to stand in the cupcake as it bakes.
Mix up any color/flavor of cake mix and pour it into the sections of a cupcake or muffin tin (a muffin tin makes especially nice bundt cake cupcakes). Be sure to spray the pan with non-stick cooking spray first. Fill each tin halfway with the batter. If you want, drop things into each cupcake, such as caramels, chocolate chips, or candies. Just make sure you leave the middle of the cake free of chunky foods. Set a foil-covered dowel in each cupcake. Bake as you normally would, remove from the oven, and take out all of the dowels. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
Warm up frosting and drizzle it all over each bundt cake cupcake. The presentation is lovely and the cakes are scrumptious. And, just think, you didn’t have to go out and buy a set of mini bundt cake pans at five bucks a piece!
