You’ve probably heard that blow drying your hair upside down increases the volume of your hair. It’s true! Regardless of your hair length, you can get big hair and build volume just by adjusting how you dry it. Go from flat to big and bouncy hair after every shampoo and condition session. I recommend that you blow dry from the roots out using the correct styling tools and products. When you know how to get volume from your hair, achieving a fuller style is never a problem.
Build Volume in Limp Hair
Begin by shampooing and conditioning your hair with volume-boosting products. Before you begin blow drying, wring out the water with a thick towel. The best method is to twist and press; rubbing your hair may lead to tangles and frizz.
Now comb the hair using a wide-tooth comb. Work from the tips to the roots, working your hair a few inches at a time. If you want to build volume, use a wide tooth comb and a vent brush–these work best. With dry hands, plug in your blow dryer. Turn your head upside down, bending over at the waist slightly.
Blow dry your hair on low, shaking the hair out at the roots as you dry it. Get volume by working from the crown and the back of the head, working to the front. Continue to blow dry the roots until it is almost dry.
Hold your head up and brush out the tangles with a vent brush. Squirt a dollop of styling gel into your hands. Rub the product into your limp hair and then turn your head upside down again. Flip on the dryer and completely dry the tips. Finish with a cold blast of air from your dryer. The cold blast is what gives your hair a glossy, shiny finish.
