Birthday On A Budget
Having a kids’ party is so much easier than you think! You don’t have to be rich to have a party that all the kids will enjoy. Most kids are more about being around friends and socializing than they are about fancy decorations and presents.
Budget Birthday Don’ts
Don’t make birthday promises you can’t keep. If you know you are broke, know that you will have to cut every possible corner and maybe the number of people invited. Don’t worry about elaborate decorations and don’t worry about impressing young children. Don’t rack up a huge credit card bill for a party your child will probably forget about before the end of the week. Don’t carry the entire burden. Don’t hire a professional photographer. Don’t waste money on invitations you can’t afford. Use social networking, and your phone to invite people.
Budget Birthday Dos!
Do acknowledge you can’t always do everything want. Do plan an outside event (weather permitting). In the winter, a sledding party with hot cocoa and cake after will be greatly enjoyed by all. Similarly, skating parties for tweens and teens are always fun, and cheap. Hot climate? Do an outdoor pool party at a local park, with hot dogs, burgers, chips and soda, with cupcakes to top it off. For safety, ask parents if they want to hang around, and if they do, have water, coffee, or soda for them. Do keep the party to a reasonable length of time to minimize the consumption of food. If your friends ask if they can help, they really want to, so take them up on it! Do encourage the kids to play games like tag. Do enjoy the day and be a part of your child’s celebration, have friends with cell phones take pictures of you and your child and their friends.
An Inexpensive Good Time!
Remember that a birthday is about celebrating life, change and growth. These events need not be expensive to be enjoyable. For a birthday locator sign, tie several helium balloons to your mailbox. For party favors for the guests, buy little brown bags at the dollar store and a few bags of candy. Throw some candy and a hearty thank-you into each bag, and voila! You can have a great party for a little bit of nothing, and a whole lot of happiness for your child.
