The Bible can give some direction and hope when looking for a job. Tips and guidelines to use while searching for employment can come from a variety of sources. In addition to consulting career sources, read the Bible to receive some excellent direction in your job search. The change in your attitude and the results that come about just might surprise you. All of these Bible verses are from the English Standard Version.
An Approved Worker
2 Timothy 2:15 says “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” Notice this verse says that you present yourself to God seeking approval.
Presenting yourself well is important in seeking employment. Your dress, attitude, and body language has been shown to be big factors for job seekers. The Bible tells you in this verse to put God first in your search. That advice sounds very reasonable.
Ask, Seek, and Knock
Luke 11:9 says “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Looking for work usually means knocking on lots of doors. However, this verse is telling you to pray while you still make an effort to do the legwork to find work. Prayer means asking God for help and seeking guidance.
1 Thessalonians 5:12 says “But test everything; hold fast what is good.” God will answer your prayers, but use your brain and do not apply for jobs that are not good or dishonest. If an opportunity does not feel right to you, God might tell you it does not pass your standards test.
Wait For The Lord
Psalm 27:14 says “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Some times a job search takes patience. Do not lose faith in God.
Trust In The Lord
Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.” The faith required to believe in what this verse says can be difficult. Read more in the book of Proverbs for encouraging verses.
In my quest to find a job once I just knew buying a sales territory on the north side of town was going to happen for me, and it was what God had planned for me. After this did not work out, someone told me that north side job turned out to be a real losing proposition. I ended up with a better deal that seemed to be a miracle.
Life does not always come easy even to those who trust in the Lord and try to do the right thing. Sometimes hard times come our way that we learn from and make our faith stronger. Finding a job is not easy, but these verses offer more hope with God’s word than without it.
