Are you overwhelmed by the map of 50+ vineyards and wineries on the Long Island Wine Trail? Are you wondering where you should start? This article will recommend some of the best vineyards and wineries, and help you plan your day trip or vacation on the East End!
If you love the elegant look of a Tuscan villa and the romance of draping Italian lights, this is the winery for you. Raphael Winery has a one of a kind atmospheric setting both inside and outside that metaphysically transports you to the Italian countryside. Both the wine and atmosphere here are unbeatable, and will definitely have you coming back for more!
Martha Clara Vineyards
Martha Clara is the perfect family vineyard with plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied as you enjoy a glass of wine. During the summertime, Martha Clara has live music performances, farm animals, sunflower picking, horse carriage rides, and fresh peach picking. These extra features make Martha Clara more than just another pit stop on your wine trail endeavors. Instead, this vineyard is the type of place you can really spend the entire day.
The Old Field Vineyards
Old Field is a small, family-owned vineyard in one of the easternmost towns of the North Fork. This quaint, rustic vineyard sits along the bay, and offers impeccable waterfront views. Since this vineyard is so seclusive, many people have yet to experience their delicious red wines. This is a great place to end your wine trail if you’re starting from the west, or you can begin here and travel backwards.
Duckwalk offers cheap tastings that include dessert wine options, cheap bottle prices, and is one of the few vineyards that still allow you to bring in outside foods. At most vineyards you sacrifice quality with the less expensive options, but at Duckwalk their $12.99 bottles are still great tasting wines. I recommend doing a tasting here with a wide variety of wines. While I’m primarily a red wine drinker, the blush, white wines, and dessert wines are all great at Duckwalk!
Macari Vineyards & Winery
Macari is a family owned and operated winery with a friendly staff, good wine, and a large outdoor deck that overlooks the vineyards. Macari has a very welcoming atmosphere that you do not always find at some of the more popular vineyards. This is a great place to relax for the day without all the commotion of a large crowd.
