Usually you can pick your class matchups in the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance. This isn’t always the case, though. In PvP, some boss fights, and various hard threats you will be forced to fight against your counter classes. This means your opponent will gain the class advantage and you won’t. While you can prevent this benefit with debuffs like generalized or disadvantage, it is also possible to occasionally take advantage of this. The following tricks will help you turn an advantage for your opponent into your advantage.
Bleeding – The most common way to turn around your opponent’s advantage is the bleeding debuff. Scrappers and infiltrators will take damage for each attack, including counter attacks and follow-up attacks. Apply three stacks of bleeding with ravaged and it is easy to deal more damage to your opponent than your opponent deals to you per attack. Fandral is the best character in the game to pull off this trick because he is vulnerable to both scrappers and infiltrators and can apply a buff that reduces damage to his team from counters and follow-up attacks.
Ongoing Damage – This trick really only works against tacticians when the opposing team also has a character that can remove ongoing damage. If you attack the tactician with a blaster before the healing character can act in the round, the ongoing damage will activate and harm the enemy before being healed.
Specialty Shields – Some shields, like the ones applied by Rescue or the Void Generator, have an additional effect while they are active. If an enemy blaster currently has focused attacks, any attacks will ignore the shields, rather than damage them. This can allow you to keep the benefits of the shield at the cost of health, which is sometimes a very good deal.
Reverse Damage Buffs – A few characters can cause enemy attacks to heal rather than harm. Loki and Scarlet Witch both have powers that can do this. A bruiser deals increased damage while enraged, which means increased healing when these effects are active. It is risky, but if you know you have to enrage a bruiser, this is a great way to negate that advantage.
Warbound – Characters with the warbound buff gain increased damage each time they are attacked, including by counter attacks and follow up attacks. You can build up the damage of your heroes particularly quickly while scrappers. This also will usually work against tacticians and infiltrators, though not necessarily as effectively.
Character Order Manipulation – Sometimes you can actually benefit by allowing your opponent’s to act at a certain time earlier than normal and with tacticians you can potentially control that order. For example, if some of your characters are currently immune to stun and you are certain the AI will attack with a stun power, you can let the tactician act early before your stun immunity runs out. Similarly, if Valkyrie is your next character to act, you can give Cyclops a turn so he will use Evasive Maneuvers early and then immediately hit the entire enemy team with off-balance.
